The issue of distracted driving in our nation has been splashed across front pages for some time now. It's a dangerous issue that's very avoidable, yet people in our country - our youth in particular - seem particularly susceptible to the temptation of texting and driving. At Hendrick BMW, we're pleased to inform our customers in Charlotte that BMW has joined the fight against texting and driving, by simply asking their patrons to ex the text while operating their vehicle

Driving a new BMW model is a thrilling privilege, and texting while driving can seriously increase your risk of a collision. In fact, the American Automobile Association reports that looking away from the road for as little as two seconds can double your risk of an accident. Data suggests that in 2008 alone, drivers who were distracted accounted for over 500,000 automobile accidents.

Together with BMW, we'd like to highly encourage drivers to avoid the temptation at all. Here's a few tips we've come up with to help you out.:

  • Before you start the engine, turn your phone off
  • Stow the device somewhere out of reach so you aren't tempted by it
  • Let your close friends and family know where you'll be before extended drives
  • Use navigation tools mounted on the steering wheel so you aren't forced to look away from the road
  • Advise friends and family to do the same-word of mouth is a powerful tool
