If you haven't noticed, diesel-powered vehicles are making a comeback here in the greater Charlotte area, and around the nation. Gone are the days of people believing the oil is stinky and loud. As technology has evolved, so has clean diesel, giving drivers plenty of power and efficiency at a time when everyone craves it in their new vehicle.

That's why BMW is committed to adding more new BMW vehicles that have the option to be fueled by diesel in the near future, with a range of turbocharged engines.

The new diesel options can be found on the BMW 3 Series, along with the forthcoming 2013 BMW X1, will each sport a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine while the BMW X3 and the X5 will utilize a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder diesel powertrain.

The 2.0-liter will have a power output of 180 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, while the larger 3.0-liter will produce 255 horsepower. That's a drop from traditional gas-powered BMW models, but it makes up for it in fuel efficiency. While official estimates on how far the vehicle can go before filling up have yet to be released, consider that many others out there who use diesel on sedans can achieve nearly 30-40 miles per gallon on the highway, so you can probably expect something within that range.

Of course, when any information becomes available we'll be sure to let you know. If you'd like to find out more about these new diesel engines on BMW models, stop in to Hendrick BMW, located at 6950 E. Independence Blvd Charlotte, NC 28227, where we'd be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.
